Doctor Houten, MD Talks About Yoga For Emotional Health
Learn about the science behind yoga for emotional health. According to Doctor Peter Van Houten, the brain is the most changeable and 'plastic" (neural plasticity) organ in the body. He says that even in adulthood and our 'twighlight' years we have the power to change our brain. Doctor Peter feels that the brain is designed for change, and waiting for us to take action to make those positive changes.
Yoga is one way that people can change the brain, to help reduce depression, anxiety, and other emotional conditions. At FreshAirFitness we are not trained in psychological Yoga therapy. However when you meditate deeply, practice mindful breathing, and unite your mind and body with yoga, your mind becomes quieter and anxiety is reduced. Doctor Houten says that you need to work one to two months before you experience change, and should work a minimum of six months for longer term change.
